The adoption of the GDPR by micro-enterprises (MENTs) effortlessly, without incurring unnecessary or unaffordable costs, is vital to the EU global economy and constitutes the high-level objective of the SMOOTH project.
Research suggests that micro-enterprises often lack resources in terms of time, finance, people, and knowledge to properly understand and apply the GDPR requirements, leaving them exposed to involuntary breaches and fines. There are legal negative consequences for a breach linked to the key issue of safeguarding European citizens' privacy and security.
In light of these considerations, the H2020 project SMOOTH focused on European MENTs to raise awareness of the importance of being compliant with the new legislation. At the same time, it provided them with easy and at-hand tools, specially tailored to their needs.
The SMOOTH Final Conference, taking place online, will be the occasion for debating the GDPR’s impact on MENTs, including the opportunities that arise from a proper application.
The projects’ outputs will also be on display, for example, the SMOOTH tools that help European MENTs. The conference will discuss the lessons learned so far, with inputs from project partners and companies that have participated in the pilots and helped shape these tools.
SMOOTH project partners will present the App GDPR Handbook and the SMOOTH Platform, enabling micro-enterprises to have a specific and personal GDPR compliance report.
