Companies are nowadays experiencing cyber-attacks on a daily basis. A cyber-attack can cost them on average €25,000. Smaller businesses are often targeted and hit harder, suffering repeat attacks which can lead to damaged reputations and potential closure. Despite this, cybersecurity is still often an after-thought for many small businesses, with only half of European SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprise) investing adequately to address the issue.

The CODE 2021: Secure supply chains for digital sovereignty?

The pandemic has shown the importance of international supply chains and how dependent we are. Attacks in the virtual space may have an increasing impact on supplies in our analogue world. Reason enough for the Research Institute CODE (RI CODE) of the Universität der Bundeswehr München (UniBw M) to dedicate its annual conference “CODE 2021” to the theme “Supply Chain Sovereignty: Reality or Illusion?” and invite experts to look at the topic from different perspectives.

The EC-funded cyberwatching.eu project has made a significant impact in understanding cybersecurity R&I priorities and online solutions for SMEs across Europe.

CONCORDIA’s Sector-specific Pilots – the basics

The collaboration between the academic and industrial community, where the research provides solutions for the identified industrial use cases, is organized in CONCORDIA’s work package by developing the so-called pilots. CONCORDIA is addressing industrial challenges in seven pilots – five sector-specific and two cross-sector pilots.

In CONCORDIA, we focus on the five sector-specific pilots, which are:

This week sees the launch of a brand-new Cybersecurity Label. The Label targets Europe’s small businesses, especially start-ups and micro-SMEs that are approaching the IT security assurance landscape for the very first time. Created in a partnership between SGS, the global leading testing, inspection and certification companies, and the EC-funded initiative cyberwatching.eu, the Cybersecurity Label represents an important first step for small-sized companies to understand their current cybersecurity weaknesses.

Happy birthday, GEIGER!

A year ago, we had a vision of a cybersecurity solution tailored for the needs and resources of small businesses, and a team of enthusiastic people from nine European countries ready and determined to tackle the challenges ahead. Since then, we studied in detail five diverse small businesses and talked to many more of them. Today, we have an impactful vision. We have designed a motivating approach to cybersecurity, and developed the first GEIGER prototype!

The European Commission puts a great emphasis on the twin transition to a green and digital economy as the way forward for Europe.

In many sectors, SMEs can use enabling technologies to redesign their operations and become green(er). Standards are fundamental for sustainable technology as they provide reliable, consistent building blocks that can be universally understood and adopted. These building blocks aid in promoting compatibility and interoperability and speed up time-to-market.
