CONCORDIA - Leading the development of a common Cybersecurity Research and Innovation Roadmap for Europe

A dedicated EU-wide consortium involving prominent industry, academia, SMEs and especially national cyber security centres launches the H2020 project CONCORDIA (Cyber Security Competence for Research and Innovation). One of the four pilot projects aimed at establishing a European Cybersecurity Competence Network has just been launched on 28-29 January 2019 in Munich, Germany.

CONCORDIA will pilot an EU Cybersecurity Competence Network to provide technological, societal and policy leadership for Europe. CONCORDIA aims to implement a common Cybersecurity Research and Innovation Roadmap for Europe.

An innovative contribution to the cybersecurity community

CONCORDIA is about building ecosystems. By building a European Trusted and Resilient Ecosystem for cybersecurity the project will position Europe as a leader in the cyber security domain worldwide while strengthening its very own security capacities to secure its digital society, economy, and democracy.

CONCORDIA will join forces across Europe’s research, industry and public sector and include all talents either they have representation in the EU mainstream or are within big organizations. They adopt an inclusive, diverse approach fostering a wide alliance spanning Europe’s research, industry and public sector, and including key professionals from a variety of fields, given special attention for promoting Women in Cybersecurity.

The Cybersecurity Competence Network formed involves prominent industry, academia, SMEs, and especially national cybersecurity centres. Currently, the well-balanced CONCORDIA consortium includes 23 partners from academia and 23 partners from industry (from big enterprises to SMEs).

Making a difference to potential end-users

ICT is the key technology of a digital society, and cybersecurity is forming a pillar of trust.  Cybersecurity does not only challenge researchers and industry. It is a major concern for our digital societies at large. It is therefore of paramount importance that younger generations be made aware and kept updated about the major threats, new technologies as well as appropriate individual and collective behaviours to reduce risks.

It is one of the main targets of CONCORDIA to establish a European Education Ecosystem for Cybersecurity. CONCORDIA will be validated through 7 pilots, 5 sector-specific and 2 cross-sector. The sector-specific pilots represent Telecoms, Finance, eHealth, Transportation/e-mobility, Security of UAVs (dual use), that are essential for the functioning of every country’s economy and society, and form integral parts of all critical infrastructure and cyber-physical systems. Protecting and ensuring cyber resilience of critical infrastructures are essential to national security, public health and safety, economic stability, and way of life.

The initial contribution to the future Horizon Europe

One of the main targets of CONCORDIA is the development of the cybersecurity research and innovation roadmap to identify potentially powerful research paradigms, to do hands-on experimental validation, prototype and solution development in an agile way to quickly identify successfully but also unsuccessful potential product development.

CONCORDIA is about building ecosystems. Not only for research and development, education but also for startups. The achieved results, the identified synergies, and the developed research roadmap with the specified recommendations will form a substantial basis for the next Horizon Europe Programme.
