Cyberwatching.eu at ECSO WG4 meeting in Helsinki

ECSO WG4 meeting was held in Helsinki on 28 September. The meeting gathered approximately 30 people, mostly from SMEs, startups and larger enterprises that are active in the cyber security sector.

NIST and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate have recently worked in collaboration with the industry internet to increase the cybersecurity of electronic messages and data flowing through the internet.

WISER supports the European Cyber Security Month with a series of 3 workshops in Romania, Italy and Spain with the aim of helping businesses to improve their cyber security culture, offering innovative and affordable tools and services to breaking down barriers to effective cyber risk management.

AEGIS Project round-table at annual World e-ID and Cybersecurity conference

The main themes of the 13th edition of the annual World e-ID and Cybersecurity conference (link http://www.worlde-idandcybersecurity.com/) being held during September 25-27th, 2017 explores global cooperation initiatives engaged in cybersecurity and privacy, the latest secure identification technologies, their implementation and the related online trust challenges.

On Tuesday 19th September, the European Commission and the High Representative proposed a wide-ranging set of measures to increase cybersecurity in the EU.

Vice president for the Digital Single Market Andrus Ansip together with fellow commissioners on security, Julian King, and digital affairs, Mariya Gabriel, detailed the plan to improve EU citizens and companies to tackle cyber threats by upgrading the EU's existing cybersecurity agency and encouraging  companies to improve their own defenses.

Seminar: Trusted cyber security information sharing within the European energy landscape

The European Energy - Information Sharing & Analysis Centre (EE-ISAC) in collaboration with ENISA, is organizing  a free-to-attend seminar on the 7th of September focusing on trusted cyber security information sharing within the European energy landscape.

The programme brings together cyber-security experts working for European energy utilities and aims to deliver multi-disciplinary, cyber security knowledge sharing at European level.

According to the NIST report, "The NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework improves communication, about how to identify, recruit, develop, and retain cyber security talent". Employers, recruiters, and guidance counselors, for example, may use the framework as a resource when writing cybersecurity job descriptions, or use it to define with greater clarity the types of IT security professionals in the workforce.

Cyberwatching.eu partner Digital SME Alliance, in collaboration with the European CyberSecurity Organisation (ECSO) has published a Position Paper on "European Cybersecurity Strategy: Fostering the SME ecosystem".

The position paper provides an overview of measures to facilitate SMEs’ cybersecurity ecosystem, and contribute to boosting the offer and the demand for SMEs’ cybersecurity solutions.

European Commission vice-president Andrus Ansip is planning to set up a new cybersecurity centre to improve the competitiveness of European technological products on a global scale.
The new centre would certify the cybersecurity level of technology products, to strengthen EU member states' cyber security standards and capabilities, which according to Ansip are not yet ready to counter major cyber attacks.
