AEGIS is now coming close to its end (April 2019) and due to its achievements.
End-users may not be aware of the role cybersecurity plays in their daily lives. Cybersecurity plays an elemental role in the lives of everyday end-users that use smart devices, go online or use government services. All of these things need to be protected, but protection may be different depending on the region the end-user is in. The EU and the US are two of the largest economies in the world and together account for more than 50% of unique IP addresses. If these regions do not cooperate on cybersecurity, end-users may find that they and their private information have different levels of protection. AEGIS aims to help foment EU-US cooperation in cybersecurity and privacy R&I in order to create cybersecurity synergy that is beneficial to both regions.
The AEGIS project features a one-of-a-kind EU-US Cybersecurity Reflection Group, a multi-stakeholder collaboration platform made up of leading experts in cybersecurity and privacy from both sides of the Atlantic. The group analyzes transatlantic cybersecurity policy, as well as research and innovation in cybersecurity, and provides valuable input on the current landscape that AEGIS uses in its publications.
AEGIS publications have proved to be fundamental for European and American cybersecurity. Their documents, white papers and reports are an essential contribution for the development of a cooperation in research and innovation between the two areas.
Moreover their results can be used as a basis to design future Horizon Europe calls that ask for EU and US cybersecurity and privacy researchers to work together on topics of mutual interest, especially in the financial, health and maritime domains, to both regions. That is the case for the “White Paper on Research and Innovation in Cybersecurity,” that assesses the interest in EU-US research cooperation in cybersecurity and presents potential areas of collaboration.
