SPARTA - Re-imagining the way cybersecurity research, innovation, and training are performed in the European Union

SPARTA is a novel Cybersecurity Competence Network, supported by the EU’s H2020 program, with the objective to develop and implement top-tier research and innovation collaborative actions. Strongly guided by concrete challenges forming an ambitious Cybersecurity Research & Innovation Roadmap, SPARTA will set up unique collaboration means, leading the way in building transformative capabilities and forming a world-leading Cybersecurity Competence Network across the EU. From basic human needs (health) to economic activities (energy, finance, and transport) to technologies (ICT and industry) to sovereignty (eGovernment, public administration), four research and innovation programs will push the boundaries to deliver advanced solutions to cover emerging challenges.

The SPARTA consortium, led by CEA, assembles a balanced set of 44 actors from 14 EU Member States at the intersection of scientific excellence, technological innovation, and societal sciences in cybersecurity. Together, along with SPARTA Associates, they aim at re-imagining the way cybersecurity research, innovation, and training are performed in Europe across domains and expertise, from foundations to applications, in academia and industry. In sharing experiences and excellence, challenges and capabilities, SPARTA makes decisive contributions to European strategic autonomy

An innovative contribution to the cybersecurity community

Re-imagining the way cybersecurity research, innovation, and training are performed is one of the most innovative dimensions that SPARTA brings to the European Union in order to leverage its digital security and strategic autonomy.

SPARTA will bring together a unique set of actors at the intersection of scientific excellence, technological innovation, and societal sciences in cybersecurity. Strongly guided by concrete and risky challenges, it will set up unique collaboration means, and forming world-leading expertise centres. SPARTA will build transformative capabilities, in strategically chosen domains, and with a wide range of application areas. Through innovative governance, ambitious demonstration cases, and grassroots community engagement, SPARTA aims at re-thinking the way cybersecurity research is performed in Europe across domains and expertise, from foundations to applications, in academia and industry.

Making a difference to potential end-users

For end-users, SPARTA and it is Associate's program will establish unparalleled traction with European, national, and regional ecosystems, relaying concrete requirements, disruptive ideas, and novel results through multi-level and cross-network actions and events, from all vertical sectors.

To this purpose, the community will be offered the possibility to: provide inputs and feedback to the SPARTA Roadmap to ensure the needs and requirements from all stakeholders are represented; get preferential conditions for the SPARTA Joint Infrastructure to benefit from world-leading frameworks and platforms; follow SPARTA Programs advances and get early-access information about their results; attend bi-yearly SPARTA Days and monthly SPARTA Associates Workshops held across Europe; and be part of the fast-paced evolving community striving for strengthening European cybersecurity capacities.

The initial contribution to the future Horizon Europe

In the context of the future European Cybersecurity Competence Centre, SPARTA will propose a governance model guiding the implementation of the strategic autonomy objective of the European Union. The SPARTA roadmap will highlight strategic targets for research and innovation investments and disruptive opportunities for capability building. The SPARTA Joint Competence Centre Infrastructure will create leverage, foster future collaborative developments and speed up evaluation and paths to exploitation.
