From contact tracing apps to economic forecasting, 2020 has seen a range of innovative new uses for data – and also re-ignited long-standing debates on data sharing, data protection, privacy and public interest. Join PRIViLEDGE, a Horizon-2020 funded project releasing data privacy and anonymity tools, for an investigation into how blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) can offer solutions for data security and privacy issues.

This interdisciplinary virtual workshop brings together researchers, innovators and policy makers. We kick off with a keynote panel that explores how political and policy priorities around data and privacy have evolved since the beginning of 2020. This will be followed by a briefing from four Horizon 2020 projects that present insights and new techniques for data security and privacy. Finally, the European Commission will reflect on how the European Union’s strategies for data and blockchain will support further innovation in coming years.

This FREE workshop’s aims to provide answers to the following questions:

  1. What are the most relevant scientific and technological advances in DLT being developed under Horizon 2020 research and innovation actions, especially from security and privacy aspects?
  2. What are the ongoing strategic initiatives undertaken by the EU to develop DLT technologies, and what kind of cooperation opportunities arise for the EU’s DLT research community?
  3. How can the policy stakeholders and research community work together to support the EU's strategic goals on blockchain?
