Estonia is one of the leading countries in using electronic services, offering digital infrastructure for national elections, communication with government, storing medical data, filling tax forms, etc. Given a high level of dependency on digital infrastructure, it is of paramount importance to study security and reliability issues. We will combine methods from coding theory and cryptography to construct provably secure cryptographic protocols and data storage schemes. We will study applications like e-voting, blockchain, and fault-tolerance of distributed databases. We will continue research on the theory of cryptographic protocols (e.g., zero-knowledge proofs) and coding theory. To achieve this, the current project will combine well-known research in both areas. While cryptographic community in Estonia is large, coding theory and interactions between cryptography and coding theory are relatively new in the Estonian context.
On the event of the adoption of the draft regulation laying down measures for a high common level of cybersecurity at the institutions, bodies, offices and agencies of the Union, the AI4HealthSec project kicked off a process to provide its opinion.
