Description
Better business transparency and remote access are fundamentally important as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to operate in unprecedented times where a rapid transition to a more digitalised workflow is vital.
The ongoing strong development of the Internet of Things (IoT) is dramatically changing traditional perceptions of the current Internet towards an integrated vision in which smart objects interact with each other.
With this in mind, Cyberwatching.eu and the SOFIE project are collaborating to organise a 2-hour workshop entitled “Decentralised operation and security in the IoT Space” to be held on 18th June at 11 AM CEST (12 PM EEST). The workshop will be showcasing how decentralized operation and security in the IoT Space help our society and economy.

- People interested in facilitating the smooth creation of new IoT business platforms through secure open federation.
- Cybersecurity and privacy (CS&P) community and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) looking for resources to make their business more secure

WEBINAR SPEAKERS
Giuseppe Raveduto
Giuseppe Raveduto is an engineer in computer science and works as a researcher in Engineering’s R&D laboratory. He has been involved with technical responsibilities in many research projects and also authored scientific publications presented at international conferences.
In the last years he has been focused his research on the exploitation of blockchain potentialities, working on DLS OCS, eDREAM and SOFIE projects for the realization of blockchain based platforms for financial services in the energy trading market and the realization of blockchain based platforms for off-chain data management.
Max Samarin
Max Samarin is a game design and development professional who is currently doing research work at Rovio Entertainment. He is obtaining his Master of Science (Technology) degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Aalto University in 2020, with his master’s thesis revolving around indoor positioning systems. In 2016 he co-founded Improx Games, a Finnish game development startup based in Espoo.
His work at Rovio Entertainment includes Unity development and prototyping, part of the EU’s SOFIE project, taking an explorative approach in understanding use cases of distributed ledger technologies and the Internet of Things in the context of mobile gaming.
Priit Anton
Priit Anton is program manager and business analyst at Guardtime dealing with customer’s specific requests and business development to solve challenges they are facing. Priit also manages different R&D projects and Proof of Concepts for key customers. His responsibility is to bring Guardtime technology to new emerging business sectors, such as energy, logistics and space technology. His previous experience is in business development, export in Earth observation, GIS in Forestry and Agriculture sector in company Reach-U.
He is currently related to the H2020 project SOFIE - Secure Open Federation for Internet Everywhere - where he is responsible for project management and business analysis.
Santeri Paavolainen
Santeri Paavolainen is currently working as a doctorate researcher at the Department of Communications and Networking in School of Electrical Engineering at the Aalto University in Finland on using distributed blockchains to federate IoT device access. He has a M.Sc from University of Helsinki in Computing Science. Moreover, he is currently also working as a Software Architect at Ericsson.
He is currently related to the H2020 project SOFIE - Secure Open Federation for Internet Everywhere - where he is responsible for researching the federation of IoT devices, interledger approach etc.
Spyros Voulgaris
Spyros is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Athens University of Economics and Business. He has received M.Sc from Univeristy of Michigan and Ph.D from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He started working in AUEB in 2018. His research interests lie in the area of decentralized self-organization for very large scale distributed systems, with a focus on gossiping (also known as epidemic) protocols and wireless sensor network. More recently he is working on blockchain technology.
Vasilios Siris
Vasilios A. Siris is an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics and a member of the Mobile Multimedia Laboratory at the Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece. From 2002 until 2009 he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Crete and from 1993 until 2011, he was a Research Associate at the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). He was the Principal Investigator and/or had a coordinating role in many research and development projects funded by the European Union, the Greek government, and the industry, in the areas of wireless/mobile networks, traffic measurement and analysis, and the Internet of Things. He has over 120 publications in international peer reviewed journals and conferences, in addition to one international and two Greek patents in the area of resource management in wireless and mobile networks.
Vasilios is related to the H2020 project SOFIE - Secure Open Federation for Internet Everywhere - where he is investigating the application of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) and interledger mechanisms to support privacy and trusted communication in the Internet of Things.
WEBINAR MODERATOR
George C. Polyzos
Prof. George C. Polyzos is leading the Mobile Multimedia Laboratory at the Athens University of Economics and Business, where he is Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Graduate Program in Computer Science. Previously, he was Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, where he was co-director of the Computer Systems Laboratory, member of the Steering Committee of the UCSD Center for Wireless Communications and Senior Fellow of the San Diego Supercomputer Center. He has advised or co-advised 16 Ph.D. students and supervised many graduate and undergraduate theses and projects. He has published more than 250 refereed papers and there are more than 10.000 citations to his publications. His current research interests include Internet architecture and protocols, security and privacy, ubiquitous computing and the Internet-of-Things, mobile multimedia communications, wireless networks, Information-Centric Networking, and performance evaluation of computer and communications systems.
George is directing AUEB/MMlab’s contributions to the H2020 project SOFIE (Secure Open Federation for Internet Everywhere), for which AUEB leads work package 4 on evaluation.
Nicholas Ferguson
Nicholas Ferguson, Digital Communications Strategist & Project Manager. Nicholas has an MSc in Educational Management and a BA Hons in Politics and Sociology. He is the coordinator of the Common Dissemination Booster (CDB) as well as the coordinator of cyberwatching.eu. Previously, he was the coordinator of the CloudWATCH2 project and deputy coordinator of CloudWATCH, SLA-Ready, SIENA and OGF-Europe. He excels in building & promoting innovative tools and services in the ICT innovation landscape. His work focuses on raising awareness of novel tools and services in ICT, in the private, especially SMEs and public sectors as well as providing contributions to the adoption of ICT Standards. Since its launch in 2009, Nicholas managed the Cloudscape Series, www.cloudscapeseries.eu that grew from a funded initiative by the EC to becoming a self-sustaining event attracting international thought leaders in the cloud space in Europe. Nicholas has also played an instrumental role in the evolution of the yearly concertation meetings of the CloudWATCH & CloudWATCH2 projects.
