Purpose and Scope:
In our hyper-connected world, the Internet of Things (IoT) calls for rapid digital transformation across industries and society.
With around 18 billion connected devices related to IoT forecast by 2022 (Ericsson report), this new connected world needs new thinking about cybersecurity and privacy.
While IoT devices are now commonly used in smart homes, smart cities and self-driving cars bringing in numerous benefits such as effective communication between devices, automating things, saving time and cost, they also bring vulnerabilities and unprecedented security challenges.
This webinar gives key insight on the top cybersecurity and privacy issues in IoT devices, the threats that are targeting them while zooming in on some real use-case scenarios developed by key initiatives funded by the European Commission to tackle these issues: ANASTACIA, mFC2 and CREATE-IoT.

Anastasia Botsi is trained in European law, and has Professional University Certificate (ECPC-B DPO) from the European Centre of Privacy and Cybersecurity (ECPC) in Maastricht University. She has also been sponsored by the Dutch Science Foundation to conduct research on the legal issues of managing cyber-security risks and cyber-attacks.
Dr Antonio Skarmeta received the M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Granada and B.S. (Hons.) and the Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Murcia Spain. Since 2009 he is Full Professor at the same department and University. Antonio F. Skarmeta has worked on different research projects in the national and international area in the networking, security and IoT area, like Euro6IX, 6Power, ENABLE, DAIDALOS, SWIFT, SEMIRAMIS, SMARTIE, SOCIOTAL and IoT6. He now coordinates the H2020 project IoTCrawler focusing on IoT advanced discovery on IPv6 networks and OLYMPUS on privacy preserving IdM. He is also CTO of the spinoff company Odin Solution S.L. (OdinS) in the area of IoT and Smart Infrastructure.
Dr Jens Jensen is a mad scientist in STFC's Scientific Computing Department. His interests include managing hundreds of petabytes of data globally, architecting data security for research, and defining best practices for trustworthy identity management and scalable authorisation to enable researchers to collaboratively share and analyse this data. He manages and/or contributes to projects that range in scale from IoT to international research infrastructures. With a background in mathematics, he also likes to promote scientific software engineering and deployment, and mathematical methods for data analysis, statistics, and machine learning.
Dr. Pasquale Annicchino is a qualified Associate Professor of Law. He has extensive experience of research and reaching in Europe and the United States. He has been involved in several European research projects on IoT, privacy and security. He also worked as DPO on several projects. He is a member of the board of experts of Europrivacy and member of the GDPR observatory of the Rivista di Internet.
Michel Drescher currently holds two positions as Founder and Director of Cloud Consult Ltd., and as Cloud Computing Standards Specialist of Oxford e-Research Centre at the University of Oxford.
Working for the University Oxford, he drives the standardisation of Cloud Computing services in Europe and world-wide, working with the European Commission, OASIS, IEEE, ETSI, OGF, SNIA and other organisations in this field; while managing Cloud Consult Ltd. Michel provides software engineering consultancy and support for Cloud service providers, supports Cloud service consumers in selecting appropriate Cloud services, and spearheads research and innovation consortium building within Europe.
In his previous position, he was with the Stichting European Grid Initiative, leading and overseeing the development and evolution of software components deployed across a sustainable Production Grid in Europe. Prior to that, he had several positions in the ICT industry at Zühlke Engineering AG, Open Grid Forum, Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe, Ltd., Nokia Networks and Pallas GmbH.
He holds a diploma of Universität Bielefeld in Computer Science & Biology.
On the event of the adoption of the draft regulation laying down measures for a high common level of cybersecurity at the institutions, bodies, offices and agencies of the Union, the AI4HealthSec project kicked off a process to provide its opinion.
