European Cybersecurity Competence Network in the European Parliament's Plenary session

The 4 European Cybersecurity Competence Centre, CyberSec4Europe, CONCORDIA, ECHO and SPARTA, project leaders will be participating in the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg, 11-14 March 2019. On Wednesday 13 March, the event will host the Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel together with the 4 projects leaders of the Cybersecurity Competence Centre. This will be followed by interviews with accredited journalists adn we expect photos and media coverage.

The EU has just approved funding for four pilot projects to establish a European Cybersecurity Competence Network. CyberSec4Europe, CONCORDIA, ECHO and SPARTA are the projects winners of the Horizon 2020 cybersecurity call "establishing and operating a pilot for a European Cybersecurity Competence Network and developing a common European Cybersecurity Research & Innovation Roadmap".  Altogether all four projects will establish a stronger and more sustainable European Research and Coordination network for Cybersecurity. 

The 4 European Cybersecurity Competence Centre will address critical challenges for the European cybersecurity especially in sectors like eHealth, finance, telecommunications, smart cities, transportation, Cyber Range. At the same time, they will offer training, develop programmes to tackle the cybersecurity-skills gap in EU and deliver innovative marketable solutions made in the EU to tackle the future cross domain cybersecurity challenges.

On the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg, the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will set to adopt the EU Cybersecurity Act. This will strengthen Europe’s cybersecurity, by setting up a European Cybersecurity Certificates scheme for products, processes and services. It will also extend the mandate of the EU Cybersecurity Agency, ENISA, allocating more resources to enable it to fulfil its goals.

In a separate vote on Wednesday, March 13, MEPs will vote on a proposal to establish a new EU Competence Centre to strengthen EU’s cybersecurity capability.
